STORIES OF IMPERMANENCE AND DECAY
Graffiti has always interested me because it contains a raw energy and tells a story of that city. Composing paintings of graffiti opens an arena for me that becomes pure fun since there are no rules… so no wrongs. The process in the studio gives me the utmost joy and freedom in the experimentation. I can create textures, embed sand, add more graphic imagery, paint, and even define the scale. Small graffiti paintings become very intimate and charming. A complete wall is capable of inducing sensory overload. Street graffiti has an immediacy because it is impermanent, which also gives me the satisfaction of capturing/documenting it with a photograph. If you travel, pay close attention to this art. In each city you’ll see a different feel and message in the local graffiti.
