CORAL TREES
Twice each year the coral tree blooms with beautiful red flowers. I wait, like a hunter observing its prey, for the leaves to drop before taking any photographs. The lack of foliage reveals twisting, bare branches adorned only by these striking blooms, a unique and special sight. As with other nature photographs, I’m taken by the human-like qualities of these gigantic, awkward tumorous but compelling forms. For years I have photographed these trees in varied lighting and weather conditions. Shooting them at dusk, hitting it with a flash, and a bit of motion gave me a more playful, magical result that I was seeking to fully express the soul of the tree’s personality. The vibrant colors are a welcome addition to my body of work.
